Stainless steel accompanies green hydrogen
The components used for the transport or storage of green hydrogen require hydrogen-resistant properties to ensure the safety of this critical infrastructure. Hydrogen atoms can diffuse into metallic materials and lead to material failure due to hydrogen embrittlement. Stainless steels of grades 1.4435, 1.4404 and 1.4307 are used as standard for components that come into contact with hydrogen. For particularly critical applications with extreme corrosion resistance requirements, for example in aggressive chemical environments, stainless steels such as 1.4439, 1.4462 (duplex) and 1.4410 (super duplex) have proven their worth due to their higher strength and improved resistance. By selecting the right material, it is possible to ensure that the integrity and safety of components in hydrogen-ducting systems is maintained over long periods of time.
We at Sommer & Strassburger GmbH have been building buffer tanks for hydrogen since 2004 and look forward to supporting you with our many years of expertise.
